Born in 1982 from the heartbeat of London’s Rock Against Racism movement, IMW was built by musicians for the community.

Our aim was to create a professional space for musicians in the community to engage with quality production technology, connect and gain fully accredited qualifications.

From Bowie to PhD
David Bowie and Marc Bolan were both big admirers of David Clark Allen's band Carmen in their heyday. “I believe the training I received at IMW studios is one of the main reasons I gained a Masters degree in Music. The enthusiasm it re-kindled in me has got me working towards a PHD and setting up gigs. I highly recommend the IMW Campus and its experienced, knowledgeable, and patient teachers!”

Solo Recording Artist
Des'ree's hit single "Life" reached number one across Europe and Japan, earning her a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist — one of several accolades alongside an Ivor Novello Award, World Music Award, Urban Music Award and a BMI Award for over five million plays of "You Gotta Be" in the United States. Her music has featured in films including Spike Lee's Clockers, Set It Off, and The Next Karate Kid, while "Feel So High" was sampled in Janet Jackson's "Got 'Til It's Gone" from The Velvet Rope.

Daniel Damian Kapuściński is a multi-award-winning Film Music Composer, Music Producer, and Sound Mixer based in London. His work has earned him widespread recognition, including a World Songwriting Awards win for Best Song Collaboration (You'll Be Free), six finalist nominations across four WSA categories, three ISSA Awards nominations (Best Male Single, Male Songwriter of the Year, and Sound Engineer of the Year), and multiple C.Hub Awards nominations for Creative Personality of the Year, Best Artist, and Best Producer.

I joined IMW for the Fast-track Music Production course, followed by an HND in Music Technology, which led me to the University of West London where I earned a BA (Hons) in Music Technology. IMW was the ideal foundation. Access to professional studios and a range of SSL desks — including the SSL Duality, Matrix, and Nucleus — gave me hands-on experience across music production, recording, mixing, mastering, and live sound.

During his first year, Abdellah balanced his studies and busy performing schedule with his band at events such as the latest Boomtown Music Festival. His band, Berber Diffusion, blends Amazigh pentatonic scales with Gnawa traditional music and Abellah says that his studies at IMW, “…helps me dig deep into the production processes of music and opens the door for me to collaborate and understand how to blend my traditional music with electronic music… Bringing my band, Berber Diffusion into IMW for a recording session has helped me understand all the tools needed for live recording, mixing and mixing" www.berberdiffusion.com @berber.diffusion
