Beginners Course Starts: November 2026

1. Computer sequencing: track and beat building, comparative platforms and programs focusing on  Logic Pro arrangement and editing of sequences; production techniques and sound processing; synthesis and sound design techniques; file management and mastering.

2. Sampling and Digital Audio: overview of software samplers and editing techniques; using and editing audio loops and library SFX; audio layering and synthesis for sound design; integration of sampling for production and post production.

3. Sound Studio practice: recording live musicians, using SSL consoles; monitoring, equalisation, dynamics and effects: console configuration, track management, overdubs, mixing; mic technique and sound theory.

4. Projects based around live recordings and electronic music production with an option to create a sound and music to picture project to help give your portfolio that extra edge.

You will increase your confidence and competence across all contemporary sound and music production techniques that include recording and mixing using our SSL 48 channel Duality console; Pro Tools and Logic Pro; workstation based electronic music composition using Logic Pro software; hands on workstation production techniques using the SSL Nucleus control surface.

The main course takes place in our SSL Matrix/Nucleus studio running Logic Pro software. It includes sessions on the production of electronic music including beat building, sampling and synthesis. It will also provide an introduction to techniques associated with creating sound and music for film.

Terms and Conditions of Booking Your Place with IMW

*Concessionary Fees:
To qualify for concessionary fees, you must be in receipt of State Benefits e.g. Job Seekers Allowance or Universal Credit or Income Support etc. We require up-to-date paperwork confirming your status and how much you receive weekly. This must supplied upon request.
Please discuss any DWP requirements with our Administrator.

1. A non-refundable deposit is payable to secure a place on a course. It remains non-refundable even if the whole fee is paid to confirm your place

2. The balance of the fee is payable and all relevant documentation is required 4 weeks before the start of the course.   Failure to provide the  Concessionary fee documentation by the start of the course could mean loss of the total fee.

3. Cancellation of your booking must be made in writing and be received by IMW· 28 days before your start date. Your deposit is non-refundable.

4. If you postpone entry to a course after paying the deposit, a charge of 15% (of total course fee) will be required. Postponements can only be accepted up to 4 weeks before the course is due to start.

5. If you withdraw from or leave a course for any reason after a deposit/balance/full fee has been paid, you will not receive a refund.

6. Your place on the course is subject to enrolment through our registrations team

7. If IMW cancels or postpones a course, or the course is interrupted for any reason, we will either extend the course or offer you a place on the next available course, at our sole discretion.

8. IMW reserves the right to refuse entry to the course or withdraw a place on the course with no refund, at its sole discretion.

9. IMW Accepts no responsibility for theft/damage to student’s property whilst on IMW premises.

10. Evidence of concessionary/Islington residential status must be provided upon request at any time during the course. Your fees may change accordingly.

11. Assisted training places are available to working Islington Residents who are registered Disabled. We may not be able to accommodate every one, so please let us know about your access needs when you apply.

12. Covid Security for your Safety: All IMW staff have had three doses of vaccine. All students are encouraged to have had at least the first dose of vaccine by the first day of the course. All staff will show a negative lateral flow test on each day of the course. We encourage all students to do the same. All staff and students are advised to wear appropriate face masks while on the premises. We will expand or change this list or precautions at our sole discretion.

If you are working Islington Resident and registered disabled you are eligible for a place under our Assisted Training scheme. We may not be able to accommodate everyone. Please let us know about your access requirements when you apply.

You can understand extended speech and lectures and follow complex lines of debate.

You can read and understand the main ideas of complex written text, articles, books etc. on both concrete and abstract topics without the assistance of translation tools or software.

4. Writing

You can write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to my interests. You can write essays, reports or present verbal, video or powerpoint demonstrations, passing on information or giving reasons in support or against a particular point of view without the assistance of translation tools or software.
